Abstract:
The Ⅰ-Ⅱ mixed mode crack growth was investigated using the extended finite element method (XFEM). The cohesive zone model (CZM) was introduced to describe the mechanical behavior between the crack surfaces. The element matrix of XFEM coupled with CZM was deduced and the influence of loading directions on the mixed mode crack growth in compact-tension-shear specimen was studied. It is shown that the loading angles have a great influence on the crack initiation angles and the maximum stress of compact-tension-shear specimens increases almost linearly with the increasing loading angles. The crack initiation angles in numerical simulation, as well as the load-opening displacement curves during crack growth, agree with those of experiments under different loading directions, which illustrates that XFEM coupled with CZM is an effective method to simulate mixed mode crack growth.
