Fluid-Flexible Structure Interaction Simulation of Flow over Cross Parachute Based on XFLOW-ABAQUS Co-Simulation

  • Fluid-flexible structure interaction represented by parachute is a complex nonlinear problem that involves the interaction between large deformation of a flexible structure and the surrounding fluid field. To deal with this problem, the XFLOW-ABAQUS co-simulation was applied to simulate fluid-flexible structure interaction. This method was used to numerically simulate the flapping of flags with a different permeability in a uniform flow with Re=2.2×104, and the simulation results were compared with experimental data, validating the effectiveness of this method. Then, numerical simulations were conducted on the aerodynamic characteristics of a flexible cross parachute in a uniform flow with Re=6.2×105, and the simulation results were compared with the experimental data and the simulation results using LS-DYNA. The flow field characteristics around the cross parachute were analyzed, further verifying the good performance of the XFLOW-ABAQUS co-simulation in fluid-flexible structure interaction.
