Rudder Efficiency Improvement of Brilliant Anti-Tank Submunition Turning into Level Flight

Abstract
In order to solve the problems that rudder efficiency of brilliant anti-tank submunition (BAT) was insufficient and the BAT could not effectively transfer to level flight, the aerodynamic force data were calculated firstly based on an aerodynamic engineering estimation method. Comparing with the experiment data in wind tunnel, the precision of the aerodynamic data was confirmed. Both results of the experiment and estimation show that the rudder efficiency of brilliant anti-tank submunition is at low level and it can not get in enough pitch overload. Moreover, the trajectory simulation shows that the original BAT can't change into level flight smoothly. To improve the rudder efficiency, the appearance of the BAT was modified, including the change of chord length,wing length and the position of the rudder. The results show that all the modifications can improve the rudder efficiency. Furthermore, after moving the rudder to the tail, the pitch overload can increase relatively. At the same time the performance of the BAT was enhanced. The trajectory simulation shows the modified BAT's overload increased and it also can change into level flight smoothly.
