Aphrodisiac Activity of a Patent Polyherbal Formulation Zhenxiong Exhibition Dan in Castrated Rats

The purpose of this study was to investigate aphrodisiac activity of a patent polyherbal formulation Zhenxiong exhibition dan (ZXD) on ameliorating erectile dysfunction of the rodent model,and preliminarily discuss the mechanism of invigorating the kidney and strengthening yang. 1. Seventy male rats were randomly divided into seven groups. Except for normal group,sixty male rats were castrated to be animal model of sexual dysfunction. The rats in drug-treated groups were intragastrically administrated with different concentration ZXD (4, 2, 1 g/kg), Nanbao capsule (200 mg/kg) and Testosterone propionate injection (TP,2 mg/kg) respectively, for 21 consecutive days. The results show that the erectile latency of drug-treated groups is obvious decreased, the serum levels of T in medial and high dose groups are increased, the serum levels of FSH and LH are significant reduced, and the indexes of preputial gland, seminal vesicle and levatorani muscle are obviously increased.In conclusion, ZXD exerts the aphrodisiac function and ameliorating erectile dysfunction.
