Influence of Cooling Mode on the Properties of Polyethylene Naphthalate Single-Polymer-Composites Produced by Undercooling Compaction

Abstract
In order to study the influence of cooling mode on the properties of Polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) single-polymer-composites (SPC), stochastic cooling mode, shock cooling and natural cooling were used in the undercooling compaction of PEN SPC. DSC thermal analysis was used to determine the effects of cooling rate on the PEN matrix, universal testing machine was used to determine the tensile properties of the PEN SPC. Results show that the maximum strength can be obtained by the stochastic cooling mode which can cause crystalline with slow cooling rate, the minimum modulus is obtained by the shock cooling mode which can cause amorphous material with faster cooling rate, the maximum tensile strength is obtained by the natural cooling mode which benefits the infiltrating of matrix due to the suitable cooling rate.
