Survey and Analysis on the Debts Incurred by Chinese Colleges and Universities

Based on the data collected from the governmental and non-governmental sectors, this research paper measures and calculates the total estimated size of the debts incurred by Chinese colleges and universities, by which it can be easily found that the total quantity has undergone, since the start in the year of 1999, a gradual decrease from the peak in the year 2007. Loans for Chinese institutions of tertiary education maintain a dynamic amount with intricate structures and potential risks for the compensations. This paper examines the present loan situation in Chinese colleges and universities, the latest governmental policies and the international common practice in the same issue, concludes that contracting loans serves naturally as one of the key fund-raising sources and moderate amounts of loans prove advantageous to some extent for the development of higher education.
