The Comparative Analysis of China’s Regional Energy Efficiency: Based on the DEA-Malmquist and Clustering Method

Taking the industrial pollutant emission as the unexpected output and 30 provincial data from the year 2001 to 2010, the paper measured the Chinese provincial total factor energy efficiency by the method of DEA-Malmquist productivity index. This research showed that the eastern area’s TFEE located on the efficiency frontier surface and the mid-west area was far from that. In order to seek out the way to improve the mid-west area’s TFEE, this paper clustered and analyzed different types and features of regional total factor energy efficiency on the three indicators including technological progress, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency. This article also put forward countermeasures and suggestions to improve TFEE of different regions.
