Post-colonial Misreading: a New Explanation of Lao She’s “Xiao Po’s Birthday”

Some scholars have reinterpreted Lao She’s medium-length fairy tale“Xiao Po’s birthday” from new perspective and vision. They reveal its social and cultural implications of“post-colonialism”,but there are lots of misreading as well. “Xiao Po’s birthday” does not belong to the category of “post-colonialism” texts,and its “Orientalism” and “anti-Orientalism” coexist. The so-called Singapore’s“indigenous consciousness” mentioned in the commentary is a case of obvious misreading. The mentality of “Chinese cultural colonization”is also biased and needs reconsideration.
