I am a Melancholic Being in the World—Research on the Emotions as Embodied in Nalanxingde’s Poetry

Nalanxingde is acclaimed as“the foremost poet”and“the best scholar”of Qing Dynasty. His poetry is characterized by lucidity and sincerity， evincing elegant quality and descriptive mastery. His works can be divided into the categories of love， lamentation， friendship， frontier， etc. Diffused in his poems is a kind of melancholic sorrow. This paper aims at portraying his emotions through the analysis of various words in order to savor the sadness and melancholy expressed in his works.
