Insights of Science and Art—From the Perspective of Design

Design is the result of the integration of science and art to change people’s way of life in modern world. Aiming at the disputes between the scientific and artistic view of design, the paper starts with a dialectical discussion from the relationship between design, science and art to explore the proposed dualism, namely, the coexistence of science and art in design, with science as its “white box” approach and art as its “black box” approach. The single method of artistic creation has been proven to be unable to meet the sustainable development of design and people’s needs for it. The progress of science is a new impetus for design in solving developmental problems.
