Current State of Democracy and Autonomy in Rural China and Related Measures ——From the Perspective of Socialist New Countryside Construction

Grassroots or village autonomy is both an important part of the construction of socialist new countryside and a constitutive element of socialist political system with Chinese characteristics. Presently, the progress of democracy and autonomy in the rural areas has made great strides, though many problems still exist, some of which are serious. The present paper proposes that the improvement of organization law for village committee is the key to strengthening grassroots democracy and autonomy in rural areas.
