The Association of Universal Design and Humanism

The paper bases upon the corresponding relation between the criterion and principle of the universal design,and the spirit of humanism.It explores the inherent connection between the universal design and humanism.Starting with the different explanation to "humanism" between the western culture and the Chinese culture,it contains the following three aspects: the thought of "equal utilization" and the conception of "everyone is equal";the conception of "using it freely,flexibly and facilely" and the conception of "human nature is free";the conception of "rational dimension and space" and the conception of "rational worship".To pursue the way to solve the problem of universal design,starting with the psychological requirement of the disabled people's social life and everyday behavior,it spreads to the psychological requirement of the whole human being.On the standpoint of the design thought,raising the request to the designer can make the "diligent care about universal design" and bring about the universal future city.To control the spiritual essence of the universal design,it is beneficial to establish the full-scale sense of value of the universal design.And it is important to help us grasp the spiritual essence and reveal the inherent law of the universal design.
