Information Exchange and Interest Achievementin Interpersonal Communication

This paper examines the information exchange behavior in interpersonal communication from the perspective of socialexchange theory, and indicates the different types of model in information exchange and interest achievement according to thedifferent purposes and pursuits of disseminators and recipients. It proposes that information exchange and interest achievementof an instrumental nature favors the recipients' voluntary pursuit of information; the greater power a disseminator enjoys, themore unequal social exchange in a pragmatic society is; information exchange of a non- instrumental nature emphasizes on theinitiative of the disseminator and provides a model for the realization of non- instrumental interest achievement.
