Mercantilism and Tianjin Chamber of Commerce

Mercantilism experiences rapid development in late Qing Dynasty and greatly influences all aspects of the society, such as the establishment of an awareness of honoring mercantilism; the changes happened in industry and commerce policies of the Qing government and the improvement of social status for merchants. The formation of Tianjin merchants determines their features, which are a weak sociability, a strong sense of citizen existence and a lack of contemporary awareness. Therefore the Tianjin Chamber of Commerce focuses on reinforcing business connections, eradicating shortcomings and opening a business mind, etc.
