The Issue on Environmental Protection in Multilateral Trade Systemand Its Evolutional Trend

Under multilateral trade system, how to harmonize the relationship between environmental protection and trade liberalization is a new issue in international trade. GATT rules and its dispute settlement practices usually runaround the issue. With the establishment of WTO, multilateral trade system paid more attention to it. The practices of the appellate of WTO reflected a trend that the value balance of WTO inclines to environment. Doha ministerial conference and Cancun ministerial conference indicated multilateral trade system compromised with environmental issue. The evolutional trend of environmental protection in multilateral trade system will challenge trade security of developing countries.
