How Civil-military Collaboration Enhances the Security of China’s Electronics Industry and Supply Chain

Civil-military collaboration(CMC) is a significant decision made by China based on a profound understanding of changes in the global landscape, national conditions, and military circumstances, aimed at addressing complex security threats and securing strategic advantages. To assess the impact of CMC on the security of the electronics industry chain and supply chain, this paper, by leveraging the national strategy of CMC as a quasi-natural experiment and utilizing data from A-share listed companies in the electronics industry from 2008 to 2023, constructed an indicator system for evaluating the security level of enterprises in China's electronic industry chain and supply chain and employed the Difference-in-Differences model to investigate the incentive effects and mechanisms of CMC on the security of these enterprises. The findings reveal that CMC contributes to enhancing the security level of China’s electronics industry chain and supply chain. Its mechanisms primarily manifest in strengthening risk management and control, promoting patient capital, and enhancing information transmission effects. The impact of CMC is more pronounced in enterprises located in central and western regions and in smaller firms.
