Impact of Boundary-spanning Search on Performance of New Technology FirmsThe Mediating Role of Resource Bricolage

Boundary-spanning Search is an important way for new technology companies to break through the dual constraints of resource shortage and technology scarcity. However, its internal mechanism remains to be explored and analyzed. Based on the perspective of resource bricolage theory, an intermediary model of boundary-spanning search affecting the performance of new technology companies was constructed, and then multiple regression analysis and bootstrap methods were used to conduct an empirical analysis on 201 corporate sample data. The research results show that: (1) Proactive search and reactive search both have a significant positive impact on the performance of start-up technology companies; (2) There is a complementary effect between proactive search and reactive search, which significantly positively affects the performance of start-up technology companies; (3) In terms of the mechanism of action, resource bricolage plays a part of the mediating role between proactive search and the performance of new technology companies, and it plays a full mediating role between reactive search and the performance of new technology companies. The research findings expand the resource integration framework of new technology companies and provide useful enlightenment for them to break through the “double weakness”.
