Chinese Issues, National Identity and Innovation of Theory —An Answer to Dr. WANG Wei

The research on "Chinese issues" needs to face the reality, which does not mean canceling theory. It doesn't oppose borrowing from foreign theories but advocates discernment, which is against ignoring the particularity of "Chinese issues" on the basis of"general values". It argues against narrow-minded national pride but advocates a more open and tolerant attitude towards foreign culture, which also does not mean to lose the national identity through following western culture blindly. A rising China needs the presence of humanists. Our construction of theory should not only be directed towards the world and but also start from Chinese cultural identity to realize the modern transformation and innovation of Chinese literature theory and contribute theoretical innovative achievement with national characteristic to the rest of the world.
