Abstract: It filled the gap to analysize the historical relationship between the two levels of optical societies in China from 1997 to 1999. Local Optical Societies(LOS) established earlier than the Chinese Optical Society(COS) played corresponding functions,while COS formed a new pattern of development and cooperation among the optical societies under the leadership of China Association for Science and Technology by supporting LOS. Set up earlier than COS, a total of 14 special committee functioned on aggregation of optical specialists necessarily and smoothly. Special committee of COS exerted a deeper influence by higher starting point and much more academic exchanges. Some special committee of their own highlight their features. LOS had held the domestic academic activities earlier than COS which supported for LOS joint academic activities and promoted the nationwide prosperity of academic exchanges as an irreplaceable role. Thus, the relationship between COS and LOS can not be simply equal to a kind of operational guidance, but showed more complex parts with a blend of time in their establishment, complementary on the aggregation functions and jointly promoting on academic exchanges.
